Coaxial Cable

A transmission line in which one conductor is centred inside and insulated from an outer metal tube that serves as the second conductor. The term comes from the inner conductor and the outer shield sharing ('co') the same axis.

Coaxial cables are often used as a high-frequency transmission line but may also be used for frequencies as low as audio frequency.
